  1. Bought a Xcica 1554 multi region DVD player. Cant get a signal to my TV set through the scart output. (tried on 3 different TV sets).

I can get a signal via the scart in on my Phillips DVDR880 DVD recorder!!!!

Took it back to the shop and they managed to get a signal on their TV

    Whats going on??

For some DVD players you have to set in the menu at which output video will come out. Try to look at your DVD menu.

Its not to do with that. I get a signal if i run it through my Phillips DVDR880. Its as thought the Phillips is acting as some kind of decoder?

Your Philips DVD gives out signal through the SCART output without any manipulation in the menu. Other DVD players may require to set up in the menu from which output the video will com out. Try the menu with the one you don't get output from the SCART.

On a second thought -- what I have written before doesn't apply to your case. What's happening with your system is a mystery to me.
