    Hey all. Can anyone recommend me a free prog that will quickly and securely erase data on an external HDD? I plan to give it away to a family member. Cheers

    Full format then fill it with DVD images(or even the same DVD image, just rename it over and over before pasting), then tell the new recipient to do a full format if they want regain the space and use it.

    I used DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke) to erase the entire HDD on a computer I turned in for recycling last week, but it is not especially fast. Killdisk is good too.
