    I'm running WinXP with SP3
I have smplayer and Quicktime Pro 7.6.5

this .mov file won't play in either smplayer or Quicktime strangely enough.

I ran it in VLC player but it said it need some sort of "WMV3" codec. So I downloaded a windows media player codec pack
but that still failed. I don't see how a .mov file would need a Windows Media player codec

More information on exactly how you obtained this file might be useful. I am assuming that you did not create it yourself and it may be of questionable legality. Possibilities include the fact that it is corrupted (if you got it from Bit Torrent this is much more likely than you realize), the file is DRM encumbered or simply was created improperly.

Based on some of the info above, I will make a guess that this is an, ahem, adult MOV file and it's got DRM. There is no way that I know of to remove QuickTime DRM. That's one of the reasons it gets used - it's one of the few DRM schemes that still work.

It's encrypted, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management . You have to buy it to view it.

Baldrick is correct, but I don't recommend this. Adult websites are notorious for overcharging and refusing to stop charges. You'll have to pay by credit card. I've heard of people having to cancel credit cards as the only way to stop recurring charges from adult websites.

I doubt this is an encryption issue but a fake file like others I warn people about

    Note the kbyte/s

    VIDEO: [WMV3] 320x240 24bpp 29.970 fps 0.0 kbps ( 0.0 kbyte/s)

Some of these when played will direct you back to the website where you can subscribe and then watch the video

All you have done is downloaded a fake file with 0 video data

A very nice way of getting you to install malware also ... be cautious

Under normal circumstances it should be ... note the kbyte/s again

    VIDEO: [WMV3] 1280x720 24bpp 100.000 fps 3000.0 kbps (366.2 kbyte/s)

I'm sure if it were malware my Ad-aware wouldve picked it up or even Malwarebytes would've picked it up.
So i doubt it is malware
And it doesnt direct me to anysites when i open it

Under normal circumstances it should be ... note the kbyte/s again

    VIDEO: [WMV3] 1280x720 24bpp 100.000 fps 3000.0 kbps (366.2 kbyte/s)
It didnt actually start playing the video it just stopped. could that be why it said 0kbs?
