I have a web server I can get to from work.

I would like to write some ASP code that would let me type in a url that my work normally blocks and have the server side code get a copy of that site and let me view it.

    Any way of doing this?

  3. You have to set up your server as proxy. It is even possible to use a https connection to your home server to tunnel the data... How to do it actually can be found in the net. But it depends on the software you use (OS, http server...)

our site knows when you are connecting to a proxy and kills it. I was wanting some code that would let you type in a url and the asp code would go get it and let you browse it from my server. not sure if it's even possible.

  5. Presumably you're talking about accessing the rest of the internet, not files on the same server? For that you need a component on the server that can do an HTTP request. Not sure if there's anything built in that can do that, but somebody must have done it somewhere. I could write you one (for a fee ).

Sounds like your work has a firewall / router / "net-nanny"-type software banning the url you're trying to access. In any case, AFAIK you'd be SOL bypassing any or all of those without an alternate internet connection of some description.

IMHO, for your own good, either ask to get the url allowed or just let it go - it's seriously not worth your trouble circumventing enforced conditions such as this, because when (not if, when) your work find out, you'll be looking for a new job. IT Depts and/or management ban certain urls for a reason - if they're unfairly banning a url, then find an employer who doesn't or wait till you get home to visit the site. If this url is work-related, then surely they won't have any problem with allowing it.
    If in doubt, Google it.
