sony hdr pj540e why does it not come with cutting and joining software ?

what i am really asking here is is it standard practice for camcorder manufacturers to not provide cutting and joining software for their camcorders (boxed with the camcorder ) ????

are there manufacturers who are known for providing software that will cut and join videos made from camcorders they manufacture ?

why is this the case ??

Sony makes their playmemories software available free for download. Doing it this way allows them to keep the software up to date, and also drives traffic to their site.

If you are doing anything beyond simple cutting and joining, consider their Vegas Movie Studio, a great value IMHO. Despite what it sometimes looks like, I don't work for them.
