    Is the camera detected?

There is no driver to install normally. IEEE-1394 and DV format are supported natively by XP. Try a capture with Windows Movie Maker.

  4. Formatted PC to SP2 turned off PC, plugged in camcorder, switched it on to 'VCR' turned PC on and after windows had loaded the detection and all that worked. Have been successful with capturing a tape onto hard drive.
