Just thought I'd bring it up. I know I started a recent thread on it. I see there are a few other threads too.
Is it too premature?
Perhaps by the end of the year if 3d picks up steam? Any thoughts?

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

This refers first to theatrical exhibition, but I think the principle transfers to home theater, for the most part. (This is not to say that I have never enjoyed the occasional 3D presentation, because there are certainly a few counter-examples where I did.) But what was it LordSmurf once said about Blu-Ray ? "The answer to a question no one was asking." That's pretty much the case with this resurgence-of-3D fad. It's becoming the monster that ate Hollywood, a trend I really HATE. It may allow them to tack a few more bucks onto the already steep price of a movie ticket, though I think this will turn out to be a Pyrrhic victory. I'm amazed they can get away with it in an economy as lousy as this one still is.When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form. -
I think 3d is just a continuing fad that will fade out as usual unless 3d can be watched without glasses.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
Ok. Maybe in a year or so we could revist this.

I'm almost ready to order this: http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/3d-hero-system/
Just have to figure out how to keep the wife from throwing me out after receiving it. -

YEP!!
YEP!!!
If your wife would throw you out over a $100.00 camera, you have way worse problems to worry about than worrying about being thrown out over a $100.00 camera!!!
LOL!!!
Or is that just some kind of add on for the more expensive HD camera ? -
Joke and naysay all you want; I'll be laughing all the way to the 3D bank. (I have irons in the fire, as you can probably tell)
I will risk a prediction: If 3D in the home was going to fade away, you'd have to see a DROP in H'wood/Industry/h'ware support and/or promotion by this time next year, 2 years tops. If it doesn't drop by then, it won't at all. Maybe it won't "take over everything", but I never expected that.
Maybe 3D isn't for you - YET.
If a superlatively artful and breathtaking blockbuster comes out in 3D, with elements that really only work when shown in 3D (I'm thinking: Trees, Mist, Clouds, Water, Fire, Ghosts, Fences, Fireworks - anything particulate, volumetric, shimmering, or textured, and possbily using Gigantism & Lilliputism) and you'll finally get the coolness and the need for 3D. And maybe by then, we won't have as many bad 2D->3D conversions, retinal rivalry, accommodation/focus & ghosting problems, and in-your-face gimmicks.
AFA the OP idea, sure! If users don't want it, don't post to it.

Yeah, because "3d" TV or any 3d anything is such a big thing for the majority of the mass public... LOL!!
Not only is it a "fad", it is a "gimmick" at best!!
Like i stated once before in one of yoda's 3d threads, when there is something like a star trek holodeck then it will be worth the time!!
But i will admit it has to start somewhere, but anything where you are sitting around with any kind of "3d" glasses on is just not that impressive yet.... -

I can't stand 3D and wish it would die forever, Hollywood should spend their time and money on making quality films instead of using gimmicks.
Roger Ebert wrote a great article about why he hates 3D:

I don't see a problem with a 3D forum though. -
I wondered some of the same things when HD came out.
I still think HD and DTV are a clever way to get consumers to move towards IPTV so they can sell Google-style ads, as in targeted.
One day, the only ads you see will so narrow in scope that you'll lose touch with reality. If you buy a pizza online, you'll get bombarded by fast food chains.
Maybe we'll get "industry tags" that pigeon-hole us into profiles.
I notice that at NetFlix, and occasionally go through the recommended items and put a bunch of 1 and 2 stars on them. Otherwise the selection offered gets boring.
Whoops, went way OT. -

I actually find all forms of 3D give me headaches after a while...seems a bit unnatural to me...

Life is in 4D. Perhaps we should have a 4D forum?
But really you'd think we could need a forum to discuss how to read & write 3D disks.
