  1. I'm using the Demo of Nero ver. 5.5.8.2.

I'm using an HP 9300 burner at x8 speed.

When I create a VCD with digital pics (jpg) all
goes well and cd is burned just fine.

Now when I play it on my Toshiba SD_3750 DVD
player the Pics come up fine with one exception.

I'm getting random video corruption in the screen.

I get blank lines or blocks in the Pics and menu.

If I go back and forth browsing the pics the corruption
goes away and comes back only with different block/lines going blank.

So it doesn't seem to be a problem with the disk
itself but seems to be the way the dvd player is reading it.

    I'm using Memorex CD-R's

Anyone have a similiar problem and maybe a solution?

    Thanks
    Jeff

  2. Just from what I've experienced, the software you use to author/burn has a big impact on how a VCD plays on these "big name" players . Try different burning software and/or encoding software. You may be amazed with the difference.

You may also want to consider buying a cheap DVD player to exclusively play VCDs or other media you create.

Here's a little comparison based soley on MY experience:

Sony DVP-S530 - Plays ONLY CD-RWs and so far has ONLY played VCDs burned in Nero 5.5.1.8 (nothing else, not even other versions of Nero). When it DOES play, it seems a tad "unstable".

Apex 1100W - A little kinder to my wallet. Like 300 bucks kinder. Plays EVERYTHING I've put in it. CD-R, CD-RW, VCD, SVCD, XVCD... MP3s for crying out loud! Its a dream, plus the firmware hack disabled macrovision and converted it to REGION FREE! Woohoo!

Of course, you're probably against buying another DVD player, especially one of the cheapies. Trust me though, once you see how effortlessly it plays homegrown media, you'll wonder how you EVER managed to wrestle with that Toshiba.
