I currently subscribe to Directv and have their DVR service. Unfortunetly I have the Directv+DVR unit, which is pretty buggy and painful to use.
A friend of mine recently cancelled his service and went with Dish Network, telling him of my trouble with my current DVR he offered to give me his Directv+Tivo unit on the condition that I copy the content from the drive and burn it to DVD for him.
It's a Philips Directv Tivo unit, DSR708 and is using the software version 6.2.
I've hooked up the HDD to my computer but it doesn't show up as a usable drive within windows.
Does anyone know what program(s) I would need in order to extract the recordings from the drive?
Thanks

I don't think you can read the drive that way, at least I've never seen any references to it.
Tivo offers software that you install on your pc that can be used to transfer files from Tivo units to your computer.Google is your Friend
