I watch movies and documentaries on my newer Sony dvd player thats connected to my tv.
I download these movies and docs. they usually come in avi format, sometimes matroska.
Before i convert them to dvd i try and make sure the format is NTSC and not PAL.
Yet after i convert them to dvd, or even if i burn them to dvd as avi sometimes they wont play. I get a "corrupt" error message from my Sony dvd player. Others work fine. So i have no way of knowing if the dvd i have burned will play or not.
And sometimes a movie or doc that is supposed to be in color comes out black and white.
Maybe i should uninstall the programs i use and reinstall them?

I use utorrent, convertxtodvd, nero 9, win 7 ult genuine retail
    Help is appreciated.
    thanks

Just buy the DVDs instead, reading the back of the DVD to ensure it's NTSC.

  6. Your Nero 9 comes with Nero Vision, use that to convert and make your movies to put on DVD. It even handles converting between PAL-NTSC.

thanks, will give it a try.

It really makes me wonder how a documentary goes from color in avi to black and white when converted to dvd. I sure dont have it set for that.

thanks again, will give nero Vision a try.

You say it was black and white. Did you check it on the PC. Was it black and white there too?

That's useful info when thinking about this problem.

In the past, when ever I've heard of this it was due to a PAL/NTSC mixup.

For example, your equipment is PAL, but you burned an NTSC disk.
    (or possibly vice-versa)
