I am using the free version of Altysoft Video Converter 3.20.
I am trying to burn an MPEG-2 SVCD of "Godzilla 1998" movie,
downloaded in Matroska (MKV) format, onto an ordinary CD-R.
The movie is in H.264, 1280 x 538, 23.98 fps, Ultra-widescreen.
It is some 2 hours 18 minutes long.
The original file is some 600 mb big.
I don't have a DVD burner, just an ordinary CD burner.
To save space, I have used the converter to convert it to MPEG-2,
480 x 272, NTSC, 29.97 fps, 1152 kbps, 16:9 widescreen. This uses
up about 11 mb per minute, just a little more than an MPEG-1 file.
I used the spltter to cut out the ending cast, reducing it to 2 hours 10
minutes.
This comes to some 1,200 mb, which I split with a Solveig's Video
Splitter into two exactly equal parts of 1 hour and five minutes
long, about 600 mb, each.
I then used Nero 6, turned of standard VCD compliance, and
tried to burn the first part. However, inexplicably, Nero reports
the first part taking up some 800 mb of space, too much to burn
on a normal 700 mb CD-R.
So I tried with the second part, and it reports it taking about 600 mb,
which I proceeded to burn.
The CD-R plays alright on Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1,
which I think uses the FFDSHOW codecs, though it cannot
display Ultra Widescreen format.
Do you think it would play on my home standalone DVD player,
one of those China-made "Weige" brand (Model DVD-168) models,
which has "SVCD, VCD, CD-R, CD-RW" printed on its case ?

Hi, SVCD has strict specifications, as seen from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SVCD
For SVCD encoding I would use avisynth to frameserve to the free version of TMPGEnc : http://www.tmpgenc.net/en/download.html
TMPGEnc can also cut your encoded file as you desire.
You're also going to have to resample the audio.
