    I have an Acer Aspire 3420 with an AMD Radeon HD 7000 Series card with one HDMI port and one DVI-D port.

    If I want a two monitor setup, do I need to get another controller? If not, what do I need to do?

    Just attach a second monitor the the unused port with the appropriate cable. PnP should see it and allow you to configure it for clone (mirror, same image on both monitors) or extended Desktop.
