I just got a Canon Mini DV camcorder. My first video project will be my wedding and honeymoon, which is in 3 weeks. My computer does not have a firewire card, or DVD writer. I'm on a budget and can't pay very much for these. I am wanting help on which brand card and writer to get that will get the job done for me. I'm familiar with usb but am clueless when it comes to how to transfer via firewire. Can anybody help guide me to a decision? Thanks.

A Firewire card is essential for DV, but you could try making VCD's to start with on your CD writer (if you have one).
