  1. Hi Guys,

I'm having a problem with AVStoDVD.
I've been using AVStoDVD a while, turns out, before i use windows xp and an old computer, now i use windows 8 and a new machine. It happens that i'm trying to convert an mkv to dvd movie and systematically gives me the following error: "MPEG2 Encoder stop working". I thought that was Windows 8 x64 incompatibilty, but i install windows 8 x86 and continues the same. I don't know why this happens, when i work with windows xp i don't have any problems. Can anyone help me?

A possible incompatibility with HCenc and Windows 8.1? There was a suspicion of this before,
with out any resolution, although the author of the program is aware of it.

See this response from the author:

  3. I had the same error in Windows 8 x64 and now in windows 8.1 x86. Should I try Windows 7?

Rebuilding the mkv with mkvmerge (last version) should fix that.
I'm on 8.1 64 bits and AVStoDVD works perfectly.

I use AVStoDVD in Windows 8.1 64bit also, and have no issues with HCenc. I always use a two pass encode instead of the one pass you are using, but doubt that is your problem.

By the way, you should rename any files downloaded from torrents before posting here. Warez copies are not tolerated well.

I already did that before, and keeps happening.

One way to do it is to go to Tools-->Quick Startup Tutorial-->Select Video Encoder-->HCenc VBR 2-pass. Click OK.

To insure that you have it set this way, import the video, then click on the little gear icon just below the green + symbol on the right. This brings up a window for editing your settings. Look in the video tab and make sure it is set to HCenc VBR 2-pass. You might have to take the check mark out of the auto video setup box to change this setting. Click OK.
