  1. looks a stupid question but my first week using a mini dv, what is the difference recording in LP or SP mode, i know you get extra time in LP but in terms of cassette life duration and video quality will this affect my recording ? which mode i should always use ?

    SP every time. DV is compressed heavily as it is, you really don't want to make it worse

    I was understanding that compression is unchanged. The difference is how the tape is used. More data is crammed in on a tighter area, same DV video compression. The only drawback is the data may not come back off the tape in LP mode.

    either way, with tapes costing ~£2 it hardly seems worth introducing potential problems.
