DVD player can't play DVD-R!

Hi there,

I have an Omni DVC 6700H DVD player. The problem is, it doesn't play DVD-R but it plays DVD+R!

The very strange thing is that, according to the DVD player's manual it supports DVD-R/DVD-RW but never mention about the DVD+R/DVD+RW...

On the outside of the box says "Plays DVD-R/DVD-RW" but the player can't play them while the DVD+R/DVD+RW are not supported yet when I put them in the player reads them without a problem!

Even the scratchfull DVD+R defeated the scratchless DVD-R!

One thing, the player reads DVD-9(dual-layer disc) but not the DVD-5(single-layer disc)... How come? It doesn't say anything on the manual about the DVD-9...

The DVD player was manufactured on 2004 - so that means if it reads DVD-9 then it should read DVD-5 as well...

Yeah, it happens. A friend of mine had a DVD Player that would not play DVD-R, but it would play DVD+R & DVD+RW. I think it is something to do with the DVD player firmware. I'm sure the machine could play it, it's just that the manufacturer is preventing it for some reason.
