  1. I installed google chrome about 6 months ago. However, day by day it would slow down. Recently it would take over a minute to open the browser, and another minute to close it down, all this time the hard drive is making all kinds of clicking noise, and the computer is basically non functional when the hard drive is clicking. ( I have xp, 1gh processor, 512mb ram)
All I needed to do is on the chrome browser, go to: history> clear browsing data
This completely solved the problem. Now the browser opens and closes in seconds.

If you run Chrome in "incognito mode" it won't save data/cache. The problem is Chrome won't let you do this by default. There is a fix for this however. You can edit the Chrome shortcut properties and add " --incognito" to the end of the launch command. Now when you launch Chrome from the shortcut, it will run in incognito mode and you don't have to worry about you history data/cache filling up.

In linux, the shortcut should look like this:

DECENT browsers let the user easily choose how many days (Seamonkey) or entries (0LD Opera) will be dedicated to the browsing history.

You can also choose to erase it all with a few clicks on the settings applet.

Yes I know. I have Firefox setup to delete everything when I close it. That option is not available in Chrome, that's why I posted the next best thing tip.

I actually like Chrome. I run it in Linux and on my tablet. I won't install it in Windows however, because it likes to take over. That doesn't happen in Linux. Anyway, to each his own............
