Play DVD *JUST* once, and I get scratches

I've been using DVDShrink to rip DVDs
I intend to sell the DVD later - so they'll be spotless

Problem: running through DVDShrink JUST once, JUST once causes faint scratches
The DVD is in my laptop for less than 30 min and I see scratches
(It's nothing major. The DVD would still pass as new - it's just that I see a line or 2 that wasn't there before)

Why...??
I always thought scratches came about because of mishandling and placing on a rough surface or something?

You're not allowed to keep copies of any copyright dvd/cd/blu-ray when you sell your original discs,if you sell/give them away you have to destroy the copies.Keeping the copies without the originals is considered warez.

i have no intention of keeping
i have a big problem, i can only watch things ONLY once (well 99% anyway)
i'll watch the copy i make (while not damaging the original) and will throw in the bin
i'll be honest, if i want to download, i can, i know enough
but it just so happens that i can buy from ebay and sell back onto ebay (and make a small profit)
thats what i do

I would be checking your laptop DVD drive. The laser assembly does set fairly close to the disc surface.
But it would be defective if it contacted the disc surface.
So I would get a different DVD drive.

Trashy laughtop DVD drives have very little clearance (<1mm) between disc and and any other part inside when closed. When drive (and laughtop it's in) get banged up pretty much, disc may get scratched between bent/dented drive lips and edges when opening and closing tray. If it still plays it's unlikely the laser because it will always focus and refocus at the same height relative to disc when reading.

Not true,the disc is placed on a spindle which elevates the disc so that the surface doesn't touch anything even when loading,if the disc it getting scratched then there's something wrong in the dvd player.
