  1. This is a well known error but I cannot figure it out on my new Lenovo Windows 8.1 laptop, so let me sum up quickly.

I can open a .mov file with virtualdub, but when I play, I get the old "no audio decompressor could be found" error.

If I click "no audio" it plays without audio fine.

I am using virtualdub with ac3, ffinput, quicktime, directshowinput plugins installed, all 32bit. I have 32bit acm ac3 codec installed. They are listed under the audio compression options in virtualdub.

The mediainfo description of the mov file follows. What am I missing?

The aac acm? Not ac3 acm.

You could also try remux the mov to mp4/mkv and see virtualdub accepts it. With avidemux or ffmpeg.

  7. Um, well, yeah, you had the right answer first. So points to El Heggunte for speed and points to Baldrick for saying it in a way I understood better. AAC vs AC3? Srsly? There needs to be an acronym oversight committee. You can split the prize money in half, I say.
