    Can someone point me in the right direction on how to do this?

    Things like MythTV and others do this. Looking to do it on the command line (if possible). Ideas?

    Yes. I am having trouble figuring out options to play and record simultaneously. Any pointers? Bit of a rookie with VLC (others too, for that matter).

    and to display you add dst=display to the duplicate command like

    Code:
    duplicate{dst=display,dst=std{access=file,mux=mpeg1,dst=/tmp/test.mpg}}


    But mpeg1 is probably not the best codec to choose.
