    Hi!
Install if necessary > x264vfw, ffdshow
Version with support .mkv (you need to change the container) > VirtualDub_1.10.5t4 (with a set of filters and plug-ins) > ru-board.com

  3. Part way there .. video seems oK ... but now complains of no audio codec...
Gspot states it requires MPEG-4 AAC LC

any suggestions where I go for this.

BTW - the files play fine with WMP or VLC ... but not Virtual Dub

I did try the AAC ACM codec (version 1.9 of an AAC ACM Codec for Windows)
But when I try to 'play' in VD, I only get a very short spurt of sound about every second, and video is matching this ....all completely stuttering.

The VirtualDub does not support this format natively, to open it you must use a plugin or use an avisynth script program.

  5. OK ... thanks ... .. quick Google and I found "DShow input driver 0.5"
dropped that into plugin folder and the video plays fine .... but Audio still cutting in for less than 1 sec bursts

The AAC ACM plugin has some problems with HE-AAC.

Sadly, your MediaInfo report says nothing about the audio part.

Besides, VirtualDub is not a player, and the VfW interface was not designed for high-performance.

The answer to your questions are in the link for Virtualdub in your post... https://www.videohelp.com/tools/Virtualdub

Install all the plugins by fcchandler, DirectShow by phaeron and FFMPEG Input Driver by raythe0n. Click on More plugins here which will take you to the Virtualdub forum. Download and install the AAC/ACM and AC3/ACM files from fcchandler. There are links to other VFW codecs on this page also.

Install ffdshow and under VFW configuration, set libavcodec for H.264/AVC. You can set any other file type to libavcodec that you wish (I like to use the stand alone encoders myself) and set Windows Media Files 1/7, 2/8 and 3/9 to wmv9 and vc1 to libavcodec.

  19. The FFMEG plug in download includes a folder of DLL's but no instructions regarding them ... can you advise where (if) I need to put these in a specific location.

I am using VD 32 bit on W7.

EDIT- I tried in VD folder and it complained on start up for FFDLLS ... tried putting complete folder in Plugins folder and it seems happy

    X:\VirtualDub\plugins32

how do you know that it works?

  21. well until I put it there ... VD was complaining that there was missing file on start up, but stopped complaining when I put folder there.

Still have the problem that Video plays ... but audio is pulsing ... less that 1 sec burst of audio every second ...
I have installed the plugins .... the bit I think I'm missing was the comment :

I am not sure what/how to do that .... opening VFW shows codecs but not H.264/AVC:

Unzip the downloaded file with 7zip and there are two folders, 32 bit and 64 bit. Open the 32 bit folder and copy the files to your plugins 32 folder in Virtualdub.

Try rendering the media with graphstudio to look/check the dshow graph.
Does the file play OK in graphstudio?

Which OS are you using ?

  29. I don't have that program installed .. and don't really want to put yet another one on my PC.

    PC is W7 64 bit.
    VD is 32 bit

Files pays fine as does audio with VLC, MPC, WMP & Quicktime

Video plays fine with VD .. just audio issue
