i have a video downloader, but i have noticed recently that some of the flv video files i have downloaded, when trying to play brings up a 'warning' notice.
Media player classic could not render some of the pins in the graph, you may not have the needed codecs of filters installed on your system.

It also has a button to click that says 'look for codecs on the net' but this does nothing when clicked.
can anybody tell me whats going on here i understand i might need a 'codec' but which one ans where from.
its not so much i want to play these flv video files (but it would be nice) but i want to import them into a 'video editing' application to edit and turn into a dvd.
thanks.

Playing a video in Windows involves building a filter graph -- piecing together several software components to open the file, split the audio and video into separate streams, decompress each of those streams, then send them to the appropriate output device (graphics card, sound card):
The big boxes are the DirectShow components or "filters". The small boxes on their sides are the "pins". The arrows between the pins are the connections.
In your case the graph couldn't be completed because your don't have a decoder for the type of compression used in your video file.
