I'm using the latest x86 vdub on Windows 7 x64.

If I want vdub to recognize the codec do I need to install both x86 and x64? or do I install the x64 version because I'm using a x64 OS? or do I install the x86 version because the vdub I'm using is x86? I'm a bit confused here. I hope someone can explain.

  2. The 32 bit and 64 bit systems are completely separate. 32 bit programs need 32 bit lame. 64 bit programs need 64 bit lame. So if you're only running 32 bit VirtualDub you only need 32 bit lame. 32 bit VirtualDub cannot use, or even see, 64 bit lame.

Sorry I made a mistake. LAME ACM only comes in 32-bit. What I meant was should I install it in both 32-bit directory (system32) and 64-bit directory since there are directions on how to install the acm on 64-bit systems.

  4. No, you only need to put it in SysWoW64.

Thank you, I just found out after trial and error.

Removing the x86 entries manually from the registry was no fun at all.

Yes I read that thread prior to installing. The LAME ACM I downloaded also contained a file specifying how to install on x64 systems, but there was no thread I could find here or Google that specifically stated if I needed to install only in the syswow64 folder or both folders.
