    Hi there:

I am having a problem converting MKVs into MP4. My preferred software for conversion is iSkySoft Video Converter Version 1.9.3.1 and my preferred software for viewing is Quicktime Player 10.4. I m using a Mac with El Capitan 10.11.5.

Whenever I do conversion, I have an additional weird dotted line in my video, as seen in he image below:

Here are some screenshots from my computer to help you with this:

I can deal with the dotted line, but the video won't play back. I can hear the sound but the video stays black.

Now there are three other pieces to the puzzle:
    1. I just attempted to upload it to you-tube to share on here and when I played it back on youtube, it played back perfect.
    2. When I convert it with a different converter, using Wondershare Video Converter, it converts and plays back just fine.
    3. There are two vertical ticks on the dotted line. If I move them, quicktime asks me if I want to save the file before closing, as if I am modifying he file.

Can anyone shed some light onto this for me please?

  2. If you have access to a Windows machine you could convert to MP4 without running a video-degrading full reencode by using MkvToMp4.

Have you tried uploading the MKV to YouTube? It should take it.

Or you can use avidemux. It is available for Mac too. Copy video, copy audio, and as output format choose MP4 muxer.
