First of all, MOST BluRay players CANNOT EVER be unlocked. Period. When you start getting to 3D, it becomes even harder. I have heard of a few Philips BluRay players that can be unlocked, but it's only for DVD playback and not BluRay and the players cannot convert between PAL and NTSC. This is very bad for us NTSC people because many of our TVs cannot accept PAL input signals. So if by some miracle you ever find an unlock code for your player, you need to be aware that it will only work for DVD and the player won't convert. If you live in a PAL country this may be OK for you as most PAL TVs, if not all ones made today, should be able to handle NTSC signals.

If you need a region free BluRay player, the only sensible advice today is to buy one from a reseller who has modified the hardware to make it region free for DVD and BluRay playback by entering a code. The number of BluRay players that can be unlocked even if only for DVD playback is quite small and doesn't include Sony and Samsung, so don't ever buy those if you want region free. Buying from resellers who hardware modified the player does increase your costs, but it's the only way to be sure you get a player that can play different region discs. The BluRay players that can be unlocked by consumers shrinks all the time because the manufacturers always release firmware updates that take away region free capability so you may read that player X could be unlocked 6 months ago but now it can't or even worse, sometimes it can only be unlocked in certain parts of the world. For example, due to hardware differences maybe the Australian one will unlock but the one sold in the USA won't. Good luck, but if you haven't found a code for your Philips player, one probably doesn't exist.

Just so you know, the BluRay licensing agreement specifically forbids manufacturers from making players that can be unlocked even if only for DVD playback, so this is why when manufacturers release players that can be unlocked they follow it up with a firmware update that breaks the unlock capability.
