    The new Tivo desktop software allows people to put .wmv/.mpg/mp4 files onto their Tivo for viewing. Unfortunately my family video camera puts them in a .avi format. Does anyone have a suggestion for a decent free converter tool for avi to.wmv/.mpg/mp4 that won't watermark my home movies?

    Sure. You may already have it installed and don't know it - Windows Media Encoder. It will convert AVI to WMV ... without a watermark.

    That woked well thank you very much. Its not the fastest, but it did what I needed. Even tested it on the Tivo and it worked.
