  1. hi...
I already have converted an mkv file to xvid (I needed to find a program that converted mkv to xvid or divx, but kept the high bitrate, resolution [hd], and 5.1 sound...and xvid4psp was the best one i found..if anyone found anything else, let me know)

anywho...i have "district 9"..and downloaded an srt file with subtitles just for the alien parts and i want to insert it in the avi file

the problem is that the virtualdub way that everyone suggests requires you to re-compress/convert it...I REALLY want to avoid this (since we can't use direct stream copy...)

is there any other way where you can just burn/insert the subtitles without reconverting the whole file?
any help is much appreciated =->

If you really need the subtitle burnt-in after recompression there is no other way.
On the other hand you can burn the subtitle in during your conversion
from MKV to XviD avi using Xvid4PSP.
The only quality loss you will get is the conversion MKV --> XviD avi.
