  1. Hello I have 7 MKV files with ending tags .......1080p.HDV.h264-vEsD@RiS.mkv. I think the vEsD@RiS part is just the poster. OK When I first downloaded them I had no problems viewing them using K-Lite-Mega-Codec-Pack.v.5.0.0. There may have been a proper codec already installed but I don't know now, but since I've reformatted my system, and using K-Lite-Mega-Codec-Pack.v.5.0.0 the audio is out of sync by a second or two. So now My system is reformatted again as I post this. I've installed no codecs at all hoping to get the correct codec for the 108p HDV h264 mkv files from the board. Please advise, Thanks!

Just run the file through G-Spot (NOT kidding... ) and it will tell you what you need to play it.

  4. If your listed system specs are correct, you won't get realtime playback for 1080p

    You need to upgrade hardware

Dump, if you can, any and all 'codec packs'. All you need for playback is a self-contained player likc MPCHC or VLC. You don't need the potential, and very often realized, confusion and system issues of multiple codecs and 'packs' (shiver ... ) to just play media.

I highly recommend a minimalist approach to codecs.
    Have a good one,

If your system was playing the video and audio, even if out of sync, then you do (or did) have all the codecs you need.

Lag could be due to your hardware not being able to render in real time.

K-Lite probably set up ffdshow to play MKVs.
I've heard claims that CoreAVC is more efficient H264 decoder.
Never tried it myself, but you may look into it.
