Hi, Searched and didn't find what I was looking for...

I have an HP 300c dvd burner. It has always worked fine and still currently burns dvd's just fine (if i can find a source one it will read). My major problem is that I can't get it to recognize any newer dvd discs. I can put an older dvd, or burned dvd in and it reads it right away. It used to read everything I threw in there and I reformatted my computer now its being ridiculously picky.

    Example...

It will read varsity blues, ace ventura, predator immediately

    but

The Punisher, Dodgeball, Anchorman it won't read. And probably 14/20 of my roommates collection it won't read.

Is there a software issue that possible here or did this burner bite the dust?

It is set to region 1 so you can eliminate that idea.

It may be an old burner, but it probably has only burned <50 discs in its lifetime and has had relatively little use. Lets here what y'all experts think about it.

    Thanks

As old as the drive is the laser could just be dying a slow death.

Just keep it for ripping discs that can be read or use it to burn cd-r's only.
Make sure the drive is in DMA MODE and not PIO MODE.
Here's a guide on setting to DMA MODE:
