Nero 7 Recode also fails with virtually no information, it does recognise the +R DL DVD.

This drive burns single layers beautifully.

You're using crappy RITEK DUAL LAYER media which is why you have failed burns. Use VERBATIM DUAL LAYER media & your problems will cease.

Glad you're willing to get Verbatim. We get posts like this all the time. Basically if you use any DL media except Verbatim DVD+R DL discs, you post here asking why your burns fail.

http://www.nomorecoasters.com has info on media quality and it might be of interest to you.

    Hi,
I'm having a very similar problem to this one. Only happens when I try to burn a DL disc.
My drive is an LG GSA-4120B,
and the media is branded as Aone 8X DVD+R DL, although it shows up in DVD-Decrypter as RICOHJPN.

    Are these crap disc's?

    Thanks.

    Yes.
Read my post again in this thread. I not only answered your question, I provided a link with data on it.

    Yes, thanks,
What I meant was, according to that link, these are Grade B discs, and so far, i've tried 4 burns and had 4 coasters.
Thats a 100% fail rate, hardly grade 'B'.

How can they get away with selling this crap, it's clearly not fit for the purpose it was made for!

Anyway, i've just ordered a pack of Verbatim's, so i'll see how that goes.

Quick update for anyone with similar problem.
I just got my pack of Verbatim disc's, and it made ZERO difference.

Disc shows as Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM 003).

Still fails with the same error message. Guess some drives just don't like DL at all.

If your LG drive failed to burn VERBATIM DL MEDIA then it could be time to buy a new dvd burner. Are you using IMGBURN to burn those VERBATIM DL MEDIA? If not then that could be your problem. IMGBURN is the only known free software to burn DL media reliably.

An LG-4120 is a older drive - is the firmware up to date?

Does the firmware have a strategy for the mediaID you are using?

MCSE can help you find out if the strategy is present.

Your problem is the WRONG burner/media combination.

Your burner is really old, you should only try burning VERBATIM DVD+R DL 2.4x rated media with it.
