Creating DVDs with .mov and .avs video clips, I recently ended up several times with a DVD that plays OK in my standalone player but not on the PC that created it. PC has two drives (a Pioneer writer and a TSST DVD-ROM, both in DMA mode), on both there is 30 to 60 seconds of frantic sawing of the drive after inserting the DVD.
Depending on the software used (Power DVD, RealPlayer, MPC, MPUI), it is either not openend at all or played partially or gives 'access violation, read from 0x0' on some of the clips.

    Any hint most appreciated.

Sounds like bad/cheap media or possibly just a bad recording. Playback issues aside, is the media readable by your PC (such as in Windows Explorer or My Computer). You could also perform a disc scan to check for errors.

Thank you and sorry for the belated reply.

Media is Verbatim DVD -R. As for bad recording, would it still play on the standalone player?
I can read the disc on the PC, I can open the .vob files one by one, but it is impossible to play the disc as a whole, as I described earlier.
