  1. I am confused with this player because I cannot understand why it plays some .mkv files and others- doesn't.
    This file plays perfectly:

The problem with this one is that when something moves it leaves a trail of pixel artifacts with odd colors

You're not going to want to hear this and I have no solution for your problem, but you need to hear it anyway. I understand why you want to play everything on your BluRay player, but the reality is that when you decide to use a DVD or BluRay player as a "plays everything" device, the reality is that they do NOT play everything. In fact, there is a lot that they won't play. This kind of fussiness where you ask "Why file A won't play but file B will even though there is no real difference between them?" is just how playback is on DVD and BluRay players. If you want a "plays everything" device then you need a dedicated media player like the WD TV or something similar. DVD and BluRay players have limits on what they will play due to either chipset limitations or firmware limitations. We got this question all the time when playing Divx on DVD players was all the rage. Now it's about playing MKV files on BluRay players. Maybe someone will post with some suggestions on what you'll have to do to fix it, but it's probably going to be like the old days with Divx where the "solution" is going to require you doing a lot more work on the MKV files than you probably really want to, maybe even having to re-encode them.

  3. ref=12 and also maybe wpredp=2

  4. My general concern is to understand what these limitations are. Even if I have to re-encode I have to know how to make it properly

@Atak_Snajpera Can you explain what ref=12 and wpredp=2 refer to (for dummies )

  5. Just use Ripbot264 with default HD 4.0 profile.

  6. Ref=12 could be too high for your player, and wpredb=2 may not be compatible. I suspect it's the latter that's causing the trouble. Encode with wpredb=0 and see if it works. If not, try ref=6 or something reasonable like that.

  7. "camoso" ---> I have same problem with you. I am using BDP-7300 and most of MKV video files are pixalates.
If you could solve this problem, please give me info about that. Did you try making "wpredp" value 0 ???
Please, I will wait your answer. Thanks...

sorry for the delay, i haven't checked the thread for a while
as far as i get it the problem is in "wpredp" value. this means weighted prediction for p-frames which are some intermediate frames which help form the actual frames (or something like that, i'm not much into these things). So setting to 0 should fix the problem. I haven't tried it, because i don't have time or powerful enough pc but tell me if you try it.

  9. Thanks for the answer anyway I tried making wpredp value "0" and it worked. I used RipBot264 program. İt takes too long but it works.
Wpredp=0 and pixelation is away And converting like a 4.37 gb film takes 5 hours...

  10. @oguz_90 It is good news changing wpredp is enough. What PC do you use? is there any significant change in the quality?

  11. Quality is same with the original one. My PC : Core 2 Duo E 7200 @ 3.8 Ghz , 1066 Mhz Dual Kit Ram , WD 500 Caviar Black ...
