  1. Hi,

I use Tmpgenc Xpress 4.0 to encode my movies from MOV to AVI using the option of DivX 6.9.2.
But I'm confused as to how all this works as I see that Divx have now released DivX 10, yet when I install it I can still only access the DivX 6.9.2 codec for encoding on third party encoders/editors.

I mean, surely I can update and upgrade this DivX 6.9.2 somehow as I've been using it for years now but it just seems to be the only one on my system.

I've pasted in my Video Codecs list as reported by Windows Media Player and would really appreciate some advice on why I can only encode to DivX 6.9.2.

    Thanks tons in advance.

Perhaps because there doesn't exist a more recent version of DivX's MPEG-4 ASP codec

Since some years ago, DivX Inc. has been focusing on H.264, and more recently, on H.265 ( = HEVC ).

I can be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had stopped the development of their MPEG-4 ASP codec
(which is "outdated technology" already, frankly speaking --- I myself keep using DivX 6.8.5 with VirtualDub).

  3. Thanks El Heggunte
But in that case, if all the subsequent DivX releases have been h.264, why can't I find those options in my tmpegenc Xpress encoder?
I mean, I've just installed DivX 10 from the official site but I dont see any sign of it on my codecs listing or in my encoder.

    My codecs listing shows this:
    ICM x264vfw - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec X264 x264vfw.dll 38.2274.36885.0
but how do I know what version it is etc etc?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

  4. Is there even a H.264 vfw encoder from DivX?
I might be wrong, but I thought they dropped the vfw interface,... (to boost the usage of their Encoding tools)

    ICM x264vfw - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec X264 x264vfw.dll 38.2274.36885.0
but how do I know what version it is etc etc?
If you are unsure and the configuration dialog of the encoder doesn't have a version info, deinstall it an install the latest from https://www.videohelp.com/tools/x264-VFW
