  1. Hi friends! I have two AC3 files (5.1), and i want to join it. How can I do this, and what is the better software to do it (Besweet, Sound Forge, etc...)?

You can use besplit(command line tool),

Let's say you want to join stream1.ac3,stream2.ac3,stream3.ac3 into stream.ac3.

Create a listfile called join.lst in notepad:
    stream1.ac3
    stream2.ac3
    stream3.ac3

Use BeSplit from a command line or use start->run and typ:

    c:\locationto\besplit.exe -core( -input join.lst -output stream.ac3 -type ac3 -join )

(change the c:\locationto and put besplit and all ac3 and the .lst files in same folder)

this is from doom9s audio faq...first hit if you search for "join ac3" using google.

You can also use the copy /b from the command line or start->Run:

    copy /b part1.ac3+part2.ac3 both.ac3

and then run ac3fix on the both.ac3 to check that it is correct.

BeSplit does not work (stable version 0.8 returns nothing more than syntax information, beta 0.9b returns error creating output file "null").

Simply copy /b and ac3fix looks like working solution, but actually ac3fix change nothing. (As well as besliced and besplit -fix). Does it mean that it does not recognize ac3 header appeared in the middle of the file? Is it possible at all since it does not different from audio frame?

We do need working ac3/mp3/aac joining program...

    Well, for MP3 use MP3DirectCut.
Cut and paste MP3 editing without reencoding.

  6. another option is eac3to, which can join most audio formats

    eac3to 1.ac3+2.ac3 output.ac3

What was your point in reviving this thread to just repeat what Baldrick wrote 5 years ago ?

Sorry for posting in this very old thread but I have a serious question.

I used MPEG Video Wizard DVD to join my ac3 files together. It worked fine. I'm wondering if this was a simple merge without re-encode or if MPEG video Wizard did a re-reencode.

    Let me know
    thanks
