mpeg2 compatibility

i need to create an mpeg file from dvd that will work in programs such as windows movie maker, pinnacle and ideally premiere 6

i have tmpg express but when i convert to mpeg2, the playback is jerky in mnay of these programs?

is there a generic setting that i should be applying to ensure general compatibility?

Try first vob2mpg. Or use tmpgenc express and convert to avi/dv-avi.
