  1. Do you know any online subtitles editors? Which one do you prefer?

The reason why I'm asking is that I'm involved in a development of an online transcription tool and would like to become aware of similar tools.

If you are interested, my online subtitles editor is located at:

I really don't understand why you would like to do it online....and is transcription that big?

For movies/series can you rip the subs from dvds or find it on subtitle sites.

I believe that desktop apps are for subtitling faster and easier to use. On the other hand, when it comes to an online app, you do not need to download/install any software. You have your subtitles still on the server and access them from everywhere.

As for SpokenData, every multimedia file has generated automatic subtitles. In some cases it is faster to edit automatic subtitles than to start creating subtitles from scratch. Of course, automatic subtitles contain a lot of errors but asr systems are still better and better.
