I've tried a couple of softwares that claim to save flash videos on web to hardrive, but ultimatley they never work long term. They seem to work at first and then months down the road, they don't capture.
anything currently that really works consistently? thanks

  2. 2 solutions:

    1- save flash videos manually
    click on "play"
open Menu item "Windows" -> "Activity" (Safari)
take a look to the windows (a file is loading)
select its line, copy it, paste it in the dowwnload window
(and add a nice title to your video on your hard drive, and sometimes add a .flv extension if the downladed file as no one)

2- save flash videos with robots
copy the web address of the page with the video
    open the page http://keepvid.com/
    paste the web adress
    validate
    download one of the links

    bye

Herve, #2 doesn't work with streaming flash video, I often get incomplete
video ( only what's buffered to a certain point.)

for those types, I use under BootCamp and WinXP Replay Media Catcher.
if someone knows how to completely capture streaming flash on a mac,
    natively in Tiger or Leopard,
that doesn't stall at the buffer and give you incomplete downloads,
    please let me know.

Would the various video-saving extensions (like Unplug for FF2) for Firefox, or the similar widgets for Opera work, in this case?

(I ask, because I don't save videos/streams all that often - and my old G3 is out of commission at the moment, so I can't test, at any rate. )

Thanks Terry for saving me the trouble of trying #2!
#1 did not work, I don't see any indication in activity window of what is playing, just a big list of names.

So Terry, you up against the same brick wall I am? How odd. you would think some developer would have slayed this by now

Use "Download Helper", a Firefox add-on. Once you have it downloaded, use the Perian plugin to play it in QuickTime player or convert it over to MP4 (if you wish). Don't forget that many YouTube videos now have a high quality option to which you may switch and then download that.

rumple I'm in FF will try that later to see if it flies.
I use to use Video Downloader, in v 2.0,
but it would stall when the buffer stalled, and thus, incomplete
file. Upgraded to v3, and tried it again, but same thing.

Terry, I trust you great mind, so if you find a Safari solution let me know. I'd settle for a FF also if need be

Streamclip works if the file is a non streaming file.

So Youtube and Vmix stuff works fine, but the buffered stuff from
iFilm still stalls out. same with Quickime Pro..non buffered great,
    buffered (streaming) stalls out.

I did a search for some "iFilm" media and DownloadHelper in FF worked fine. I just waited for the buffering to finish (although I've done it without waiting and the download just takes longer - it finishes when the buffering is done.)

Perhaps I'm not DL'ing the media to which kevs is referring? How about a specific link?

Terry, someone suggest SnapZ. she writes,
"I use it all the time to capture anything on my screen. It can and will capture ANYTHING because it simply records exactly what you see."

I think it's over-priced, but what you think?
