Replacing Audio In An MPG File Lossless

I have some MPGs that I ripped from some DVDs. But audio is a bit low. I used Virtual Dub & made louder audio files. I am trying to get these new audio files in the MPGs. But DirectStreamCopy does not seem to work nice with MPG files. AVIDEMUX does the trick. But VLC tells me that the new MPG is broken & needs to be repaired. I would like a good file with the new louder audio without ruining the video. Is this possible ?

WAV LPCM(Filters Resampling Hz 48000 box checked)
MPEG-PS
