  1. My Camera HPv5061u says it is full 1080p HD. When I play the raw mov file mpc reports 1920x1080. When I load the file into Xmedia recode, it says 1440x1080 16:9. Also directshowsource of the mov also reports 1440x1080 and in this case it loks squished.

Did HP jerk me off by saying "1080p hd" mode but it's really 1440x1080? At first I thought there was issue with my directshow decoder so I just reiszed to 1920x1080 for my final output file, as my intro and outro templates are fuly 1920x1080 and it has been a bitch having to resize every time.

Yep, HP jerked you off. 15 seconds of Googling the specs tells me that the max rez for that cam is 1440x1080.

It is 1440x1080p or 1280x720p at 30 fps as clearly stated in the specs.

At $150 I guess you get what you pay for. 30fps should be on a tripod.

BTW: AVCHD "Full HD" would be 1920x1080 60i or for some models 1920x1080 24p.

  5. The camera records at 1440x1080 but the display aspect ratio is 16:9. So the player stretches to 1920x1080 or some other 16:9 frame size during playback. Many devices record this way. For example NTSC DVD is 720x480 (3:2) for both 4:3 and 16:9 video. The player resizes to the appropriate aspect ratio during playback.

  6. I am stil very happy wit the camera. It was an amazing deal at $128. I didn't know that 1440x could stil be called 1080p. Great camera for the price. You can see my work at www.youtube.com/user/duhmez
