  1. Does anybody know of any stand-alone DVD/Blu-ray players with USB support, whose USB support includes RESUMABLE playback? I mean it's so annoying to have to search again the USB-file to find where you left off if you shut down the player beforing watching the whole movie-file (mpg, or divX or ts or whatever), or if you switch the player to another mode!
In other words, to offer auto-memorizing of the last USB-movie-file position or to offer USB bookmark creation or anything like that?
    Thanks in advance,
    SONAM

My DVP5990 can resume on DVD, USB (thunb or HD). Most media players like the WDTV Live(+) will do that as well.
    Have a good one,

I have the Philips DVP5990 and it does NOT resume position of divx files from the thumb drive. Perhaps I just have an older firmware as I have never updated it. Same thing with my DVP5140

  4. Thanks both.
Neomaine, I didnt even know there were stand-alone media players around other than DVD/Blu-ray players! So, my interest right now has been shifted to media players like the one you mentioned (WDMP). By the way, could you please tell me whether that WDMP player can play movie files in *.ts format?
    Thanks again

I know that .m2ts is as that's the bulk of my viewing. Check the WDTV site for the full list as I'm not sure about .ts streaming.

Note: The site will NOT mention divx, I'm guessing as to avoid paying fees, but does support it quite well. I don't remember it listing xvid but it does list mpeg-4 which is the the core of divx/xvid.

I have upgraded my firmware with vb6rocod's excellent one. Probably comes with that.

I've just tested my 5990, which has vb6rocod's latest version of the firmware.

DivX/Xvid files on DVD data disc:
-- play video then hit Stop once, turn off player (standby), turn on player: no resume.
-- play video, turn off player while playing, then turn player back on: no resume.

...and the same for videos on the USB drive.

Remember, the OP wanted the player to remember the position while the player is off/in standby mode. The 5990 just read the media and did nothing (other than display the file select menu), on all four tests, when I turned it back on.

I haven't played divx from usb in quite some time, never did from dvd so no experience there. Applogize for the confusion on the divx USB/DVD support. However, this does work via network.

The WDTV series play h.264, mpeg 2, AAC, and AC3 in TS files, high def and standard def. Maybe other codecs too.
