powering a Sony CCD-V600E with an universal adapter

My uncle lent me his old Sony Handycam (model CCD-V600E) to digitalize some Hi8 cassettes.
The camera is supposed still working, but lacks the AC power adapter and battery charger.
So i'm planning to use an universal power adapter with 2 wires going directly to the battery contacts:


According to the manual the power requirements on battery mounting surface are:

6.0V (battery pack)
7.5V (AC power adaptor)
9.0V (alkaline batteries)

power consumption: 6.9W (in recording mode)

For the voltage i guess i should go with 7.5V.

Now the problem is the amperage:
i have 2 universal power adapters, with 500mA and 1A output.
According to my calculations (6.9 < 7.5*1 ) the 1A one should supply enough power.
Am i correct?

Wow, i've done it and it works!



@6V the camera turns on, but all functions are not working.
@7.5V the camera turns on, cassette ejects and playback starts!

Is there any risk powering the camera this way?

I think you'll be ok if it's working.
You really should check the voltage and milliamperes in the manual.
Just why Europe hasn't standardized their outlets is another matter...

The manual doesn't mention the mA requirements,
but the watts:
6.9W < 7.5V*1A
So i'm a bit over the requested power, i hope this won't be a problem...

My Sony Hi8/Digital8 adapters from that era show 8.4 VDC and 1.5 A.

That would be 12.6 W but supply shows AC 100-240 VAC at 23 W. I suppose the rest goes to heat.

I've tried acquiring some cassettes, but the playback stops after a few minutes.
Also sometimes the camera is unrensponsive to commands and powers off.
I think i'm giving up, i don't wanna risk breaking my old tapes...

I think the power supply needs to be upgraded for more Amps @ selected volts. Like I said, the Sony power supply is spec'd 1.5 A out.

Hi!

I am also fiddling with a CCD-V600E camera. In my case I have the original power adapter, but I got a cassette stuck on the deck and I can't get it out.

Does anyone know if there's a way to manually eject a cassette on this vintage camera?
