    Hello Everyone,

Two really good friends of mine asked me to be their wedding videographer. TO practice, I recently created their engagement video if you guys could do me a big favor and watch the video and tell me what you guys think it would be much appreciated.

I used a Canon GL2 for this video. The link is below.

Nice ideas and clever execution -- although I don't know that I'd want my engagement to look like the testimonial-style infomercials you see at 3-A.M. But, hey, whatever the customer wants. Technically, it's really hard to tell if UTube messed up the color, the levels, improper deinterlacing, and inflicted the over-processed look, or if you sent the original to them that way. Thank goodness you didn't crank up the zoom the way most people do, but you might want to think about disabling the AGC that's pumping the luma levels. Most of the shots look washed out. Might be a good idea to calibrate your monitors. Good luck.

Nicely done. Agree with sanlyn about colors.
Great to see the lav mic being used. Makes a HUGE difference.
    Music and audio nicely balanced.
Slow motion was a really nice touch and not overly used.

I liked your video and can imagine it being infinitely better in HD. Unless being retro with the GL2 was intentional
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

Yeah, it's all about "them". That's the secret formula.

  7. Too much scene cutting. Would prefer some scenes more than 3 sec long. This is a film about a long relationship, so long scenes.

One of the most important takeaways is learning which advice to trust and which to ignore.

The opening title is a bit newbish, doncha think?

Maybe a static title is better. It won't compete with the content. Too much razzamataz is no good.

You could use it as "Branding" too:

I have now watched the video (Made some comments in the deleted thread)

As I said there, it is not really possible to compare this mini epic with the proposed wedding video as shooting conditions will be totally different (unless you have the luxury of multi cameras)

Having said that, there is a fine balance between quick scene changes and longer scenes. But I think you have got that quite well.

Much of this video is shot outdoors but a wedding - the important bit - is usually indoors. I think you need to do some work lighting-wise so as not to ruin the watching experience.

Hey, hold the fort, I just listened to the audio, and it's horrendously awful.

Actually, there are some good moments, but too much B-roll. Anyway, here's an idea on how to do these things better, and more engaging.

And you should colorize better. Use a gradient to add pizzaz.

Very nice cuts and seques, but persistent use of incorrect IRE, and highlights destroyed in most shots or blown out to almost-white:

I did what I could with bad levels, but had only the low-bitrate .flv from UTube. Worked levels and color only, didn't address compression or deinterlace artifacts, spotty dissolves, or other noise. Couldn't rescue many of those highlights. The original audio rate is non-compliant for DVD, BluRay, or AVCHD (it's 48k in the attached mkv). The final product for your couple should have a lot more bitrate than the flv. With your cool edits and ideas, the bride and groom ought to have nice color as well. Your encoder will like you for it, too.

  18. If you are going to allow them to watch their video on a PC you should not overlook other playback options....

    My app can:

"fast forward" through the entire collection.

Random segment selection and play as a screen saver.

    Slow motion

Large Font text for the important details.

And a mix of all the above. You will Never bore the viewers to death with these options.
