    Hello,

I recently purchased a TV tuner card for my PC and have managed to record something from one of the HD channels.

When navigating to the file, it became apparent that it is a MPEG-2 TS file.
Whilst this would not normally be a problem (since I could just get codecs or play it back through the PVR software), I do need to be either AVI, MP4 or MKV so that I am able to play it back on my network player.

I attempted to change it to MP4 (H.264) by importing it into a video editing software, which then re-encoded it and rendered it out, but that resulted in the picture quality becoming quite poor. So I'm back to square one.

I just want to be able to maintain the quality of the video/audio and am not worried about filesize at all. (the original is about 3GB).

Can anyone suggest what to do?

    Thanks~

Apologies, but I believe I have posted this in the wrong section.

I will re-post this in the relevant section now.

Well I'm actually a complete novice when it comes to all of this, so I just used Adobe Premiere Pro to export it as a new file. Again, a complete novice so that probably wasn't a good idea.

  6. You don't need to convert it as your recording is already in H264 format - only ts container is recognised as being MPEG-2 but if you check with MediaInfo it shows correct and full info. You may remux your ts into mp4 with MP4Box or mkv using MKVToolNix.

Yep, that sounds smarter. You just add the ts file in mkvmergegui / mkvtoolnix, make a new mkv(takes a few minutes) and hope it works on your network player.

Hmm, tried the file in mkvtoolnix and it displays warnings such as: 'No valid AAC header found. May cause video/audio desyncronisation'.When playing the new MKV file it doesn't have any audio at all...

  9. It's how BBC broadcasts... What a PC player do you use? May you post (html formatted) log from MediaInfo of your mkv and ts file?

  12. Your problem is mixture of AAC-LATM / HE-AAC, and that matroska doesn't handle them well. Easy option is to convert audio to AC3 with i.e. TAudioConverter - download latest beta version here. It handles audio in ts container but you need to show all files when adding your into TAC. Don't forget to check sampling rate (should be 48 kHz or "original") in codec setting.

BTW: MPC-BE plays Freeview recordings without a problem.
