    Hi guys,

I am from Australia and need some advice on selecting a cheap dvd player that can play divx/xvid and MP3.

So far i have narrowed my selection to the following:

    Nintaus n9808
    Phillips DVP 642
    Tevion DVD-4000
    XMS- 888

I would like some advice on the above players. Which one would you buy?
Secondly if someone knows where i can buy the player in australia, preferablly online, please let me know also.

    Thankyou.

I live in Wagga. My budget is $100 at the moment. How does the Z340 compare to one of the more popular and cheaper models such as the DVP 642?

    I've got the Z330 and I think it's awesome.

Plays XviD/DivX/MP3 from DVD-Rs, which is the main reason I got it.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I have the Philips DVP-642 here in America and I like it. However, it has a lot of fans and detractors. It seems that Philips quality control is really bad on this model and some (like mine) work fine and others very quickly develop serious problems. This player is very thin and thin players tend to "run hot", so if you buy any small and/or thin player, be sure to put them in a place with open space and good ventitlation or heat will shorten your player's life.

The DVP-642 can be made multi-region via the remote control and it plays DivX. Some people are just in-your-face adamant that the picture on the DVP-642 is TERRIBLE, but some of us disagree. One guy said "OK, it's terrible only if you play it on an HDTV, but it's OK otherwise". Since I don't have an HDTV, I can't check that.

Finally, this may not be important to you at all, but the player is very fussy about SVCD discs. It will only play the first audio channel on an SVCD, although the format supports 2 separate audio channels, and if your SVCD has subtitles, it will only play the first one and it CAN'T BE TURNED OFF
