Hi guys, this is the first time I have posted on here so I apologise if I dont explain things clearly enough (or too much). Anyway, I have recently purchased a Sony RDR-870 DVD recorder. One of the main reasons for gettin this one was because of its ability to play AVI/Divx. Where Im having the problem is when I have recorded multiple AVIs onto 1 DVD, playback is good quality but at various points (doesnt seem to be a pattern) it will suddenly skip the one Im watching and go straight onto the next episode. I then have to go back to the previous one and fast forward to just after the point it skipped. I reckon it does it on about 90% of the programs we watch using this format. I've tried recording them on the slowest speed and it doesnt help. I've tried converting the AVIs to Divx format but that doesnt make a difference. I'm thinking maybe its the type of disc Im using (Piodata - Ritek G05) but looking at the views on this site it seems quite a good one. Does anybody have any thoughts of what could be causing it and what to do to solve it. Thanks in advance

Are you sure that the DVIX files you have written actually contain the whole episode?
Many of the downloaded DIVX and AVI files on bittorrent and Usenet are crap as well as illegal.
Sometimes this crap is a short file, sometimes this crap is a corrupt file which a player or convertor reacts to by ceasing to read the file. -
That's definitely not high quality media, so trying something better would be the 1st step. Verbatim, made in Taiwan, or some Taiyo Yuden would be the best choice.

When it happens I go back to the episode and fast forward to just after the point where it jumped and then its ok. Just a pain in the @ss really. I will try a different DVD (I've heard of Verbatim but not the other) and hopefully that will solve it. Thanks for your help guys I do appreciate it.

Check that the bitrate and audio settings are supported by your unit (in the manual it usually specifies this somewhere). Divx is often encoded for PC playback and sometimes uses features the players do not support. If you re-encode the files to Divx using these settings and you still see the problem, then the discs may be the issue.
Buy some good quality DVD-RW and you can experiment with encoding without wasting a lot of discs. Once you find what works well with your Sony, then you can burn to DVD-R.Bron
