I searched on this question and did not find anything that was less than a six months old so thought I would open the question here. Six months is an eternity in technology, more than enough time to give birth to something new, better, lighter, etc.
Most of the posts/articles I read said that tape was still better but that digital media was easier to use and more than adequate for most purposes. Do these generalizations still hold true?

Depends on your workflow. "tape is better" is a fuzzy notion. Better at WHAT? If your workflow needs to include backups & archiving, tape is more efficient because it can be considered it's OWN backup (because one rarely rewrites over used tapes).
Before this can be clearly answered, one needs to be clear about what you intend to be doing, what's your workflow & safety/speed/security/shareability expectations. Then you choose the medium that is the best fit.
