I hadn't authored a DVD in a long time, but I had a couple of mpegs on my computer that I wanted to make into a DVD. I'm not a big fan of a lot of the authoring tools out there. I saw some good chatter about DVD Flick so I gave it a try. The tool made a disc with nice video and I was especially impressed with the way it put audio and video in perfect sync (a problem that I have had whenever making DVDs throughout the years).

But, the resulting disc, with a menu, causes my DVD player (Samsung DVR-R120) to freeze whenever I try to play it! I have to cut power to the player to get it back. When I create a disc without a menu, it plays fine. I can play the disc with the menu in my computer and my XBOX 360 without a problem.

Has anybody seen this? Is it a problem with DVD Flick or with certain DVD players? DVDs take a long time to transcode so it's difficult to diagnose this. I did make a DVD with two short videos on it and I had the same menu problem. DVD Flick has limited (but just enough) options to make a menu, so there's not really much to try here.

Thanks.

I ripped dvds from a tv show to the harddrive so i dont have to keep switching discs. While doing so i discovered a VTS file video i cant locate through the DVD menu itself. Ive checked through all the menu items. It seems to be part of the bonus scenes but there seems to be no way to get to it other than physically clicking the VTS file when exploring the DVD. All the other bonus video have a link from the dvd bonus menu. Im wondering if ive overlooked something. Its the very last VTS on the disc.

Is there a way with some program that i can see what dvd menu item brings me to this specific VTS?

thanks for your time :)

Hello.

I have been attempting something that I was certain would be quite simple, but after days of reading articles and trying out a large variety of software, I am beginning to understand that it may not even be possible. After much frustration, one day it occurred to me that there must be many people that are quite knowledgeable in DVD structure and protocol, and some of them probably wouldn't mind spending a very small amount of their time in order to save me a great deal of mine. If you are one of those people, I would very much appreciate your help.

It seems that what I'm trying to do is either virtually effortless or absolutely impossible, so here's the deal:

I want to make 1 DVD5 backup copy of each of the commercial BD and DVD disks in my collection. Sounds simple enough, right? I mean it's done hundreds of times each day, all over the world. However, I evidently have a unique goal (or actually more of a prerequisite) in the backup process. It's evidently unique because I cannot find anyone else who wants to do it, nor can I find templates for doing it with any BD/DVD authoring software. What I want is just a matter of making a simple menu, so why has this been so hard for me? I'm not exactly an idiot when it comes to computers, software and video, but after the past few days I certainly feel like one.

So, great ones, please tell me how I may fulfill the following deceptively unobtrusive prerequisites within my little project:

1) There will be one title (usually the main movie) per backed up disk.

2) The title will have chapters.

3) The disk will have one menu and no sub-menus.

4) The menu will appear on the screen when the disk is inserted into the player.

5) The ONLY buttons (or user interactions) available from the menu are the choice of chapters. One possible exception could be a "Play Movie From Beginning" button, but that would merely be linked identical to the "Chapter 1" button.

6) IF POSSIBLE: After X amount of time has elapsed with no interaction from the user, video manager jumps to the beginning of the first chapter AND PAUSES there.

7) IF POSSIBLE: It is normal for video manager to remember the play position at the time the stop button on the remote is pressed. I think my PS3 even remembers the position after the disk is ejected and the player is turned off. BUT CAN I: (7a) Have a button on the menu that will return to, and start playing from the last previous play position? AND FURTHERMORE CAN I: (7b) Have a button that acts the same as 7a, except pauses there instead of start playing?

Folks, maybe I should be ashamed to say it, but I kind of freaked out after I eventually started trying to figure out the exact bits and bytes of DVD menu structure. At this point I'm inclined to believe that what I want might not be possible, solely due to the requirements and limitations inherent in the DVD structure. I have tried a lot of software, both pay and free, and of varying complexity and ability. I'm still left pulling my hair out. Please help me if you can, but please note that I am not interested in software or methods for ripping, burning, muxing, chapter making, protection bypass... Or anything else other than a way to make the simple menu that meets the criteria above.

Please help if you can. And if you can, well woo-hoo, you da man! (and/or woman!), and thank you VERY MUCH.

I tried to be somewhat detailed (or was it long winded?), but if you have any questions please feel free to ask. I'll be happy to do what I can to help you help me.

Oh, and I guess I should mention that there is a potential fly in the ointment. So far during the course of this project I have been unable to try several applications, such as DVD Architect. I am using Windows 8, which comes with Net Framework 4.5. DVD Architect and some others require Net Framework 3.5, but try as I might, I am unable to install it on my computer (another frustrating story). Just an FYI in case your solution falls into this category.

Hello.
I was attempting to author a DVD as I'd added a subtitle track. It seems that the body of the subtitles I used were somehow made with the same pixels used for the background. I'd attempted to colourise them with DVDSubEdit and only found this out after emailing the creator of DVDSubEdit, who replied after seeing the .sup file:

"These subs are strange, I don't think I've seen this before: the body of the characters is made with the same pixels as the background (click on 'b' and you'll see that the background lights up, along with the inside of the characters).
So you can't possibly make it so the body is not transparent, because you'd have to make the background pixels opaque (they're used for the body as well) and that would look horrible.
You can't control independently, on these subs, the color/transparency of the body pixels and of the background pixels...
And that's the source of your trouble..."

Has anyone else encountered this problem, and/or found a solution?

Regards.

I've got the completes series of a TV programme in avi format on my computer and will like to get them on dvds to watch on my TV.

However, I'm struggling to find a software that will enable me create a suitable menu. When I get into the menu to choose the required episode, I can't tell which is which because I was unable to give each episode a title to identify it. I've managed to get 4 episodes on one disc and will like to create individual titles for the episodes which can be seen when I need to choose an episode. For example Season 1 - Episode1; Season 1 - Episode 2, etc etc

Hope someone can help with this. Many thanks!

After burning a DVD, I usually play it back on my TV-connected DVD player, and my computer's DVD player, usually skipping to each chapter stop on the TV player, and clicking on random spots on the playback timeline on the computer DVD player(usually VLC, have lately tried Windows Media Player), just to make sure things went smoothly. I never usually had a problem until recently.

The DVD's are playing back fine on the TV, but are getting stuck towards the end of the DVD on the computer. They either just stop completely or stutter forward very slowly. These DVD's contain 6 episodes running between 24 and 28 minutes each, generally. It might seem like it could be an issue of too much on the DVD, but I've burned the same type and quantity of clip before and never had a problem. I feel like it has to be something wrong with either my DVD drive or the software playing the DVD. Has anyone got any other ideas, where I could be wrong?
Is this possible to do using DVD Lab Pro or something similar? I assume the "subtitles" in this instance are a series of still frames playing in sequence to make the animated commentary overlayed on the main movie.
