Need help with ripping a DVD

Hi,

I'm making a movie for my grandparents who are married 60 years in a couple of weeks.
I want to use old footage that they've shot on their holidays etc that has been digitalized.

I have tried two different DVD rippers, WinX and Handbrake.
With both programs there seems to be something going wrong.
When I try to open the ripped footage (.mp4) VLC media player plays and stops instantly, Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 says that it's an unknown format or the file has been damaged and quicktime player gives an error 'Error -2048 :H'.

I hope that someone can help me out since I really need to make this movie.

DVD Dectypter error "EAccessViolation"

Got this error when I was gonna do a backup of a DVD with DVD Decrypter

InterfaceThread Runtime Exception!
Message = EAccessViolation

I have tryed using AnyDVD at the same time as DVD Decrypter
and I have tryed different DVD Rippers like DVDFab 9 and CloneDVD2 but they didn't work.

Got any solution to my problem?

Ripping DVD TV Shows with subtitles...not working with Handbrake or Xmedia

Hi all,

This is my first post here and I have been following this forum for my video related issues. I have searched multiple places but could not find a solution. I have a problem when ripping DVD TV shows that I bought before. It is a japanese drama. I really need the subtitles because I did not understand japanese. I have been playing with Handbrake as per this guide.http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/303110-How-to-easily-convert-DVD-to-high-quality-MP...ing-free-tools. In other thread someone also suggested Xmedia Recode.

My main problem is the subtitles is not in the midline after DVD ripped using Handbrake or Xmedia Recode.

This is the video when I played directly with Windows Media Player Classic from DVD. The subtitle is in correct place.

This is what happened when I played using VLC. Not sure what happened though. The autoplay from DVD seems show the video is widen with distorted subtitles.

The main issue for me is when I ripped the DVD using Handbrake. It showed the subtitles is not aligned properly. Seems it was zoomed and placed at the bottom lower right. That is from the video file that I converted using DVDFab HDDecrypter.

It showed same problem if I use Handbrake and load directly from DVD.

This is the subtitle setting from Handbrake. It only have those 3 subtitles (VobSub) and I load them all.

I also tried using Xmedia Recode as I thought is Handbrake problem. But it seems it showed same problem using Xmedia Recode. Its a bit better compared to Handbrake.

This is the setting from Xmedia Recode for subtitles.

Now I dont know what happened there. I dont know why the ripped videos has distorted subtitles. I wanted the ripped videos showed as
MPC. It confuses me...Is there anything that I missed? Is it the problem with subtitles or the video settings? Sorry for the long post. :confused:

How to Create New DVD

I have converted 4 movies into 4 vob movie file (no .ifo and bup file).Now I can use ifoedit to make ifo and bup file but I cannot able to create DVD menu.I can create menu by another software but it first create menu then convert vob file to vob file again and it takes very long time approx 3-4 hours again.Can I create menu using ifoedit or any other software

I'm trying to rip a trailer from a DVD, but every program I've tried to use has been unable to locate the track. In my DVD player, the trailer will play without any track information and in every DVD ripping program I've tried, only the main program is visible. (I'm on a Mac, if it matters.) Any ideas how I can locate and rip the trailer?

I've been out of the game for a long time.

Has anyone compared the image quality of DVD-Cloner 2013 to that of Handbrake and the others? I've read mixed reviews.

I did actually use DVD-Cloner and it took way less than an hour to rip a DVD9 to a DVD5 with one simple click. The video looks really good but of course it lost some minor detail but no blockiness or mosquito noise. The only issue that I notice is the picture appears to be a little jerky.

Which application currently gives the best image quality and what settings ensure the best results?

Weird Ripping Issue

I am in the process of backing up my DVDs to a hard drive. I have several DVDs that I burned with Tmpgenc from AVI files that play just fine in my DVD and BluRay players, but when I put them into the computer I get "invalid DVD structure" when I try to rip them and I am unable to open up the VOB files in any sort of program. Any idea of how I can get around this situation so I can convert these DVDs to MKV?

Handbrake "Add to queue" option

I have read on some websites that it�s possible to getHandbreak to convert multiples films one after another using the add to queuebutton. But when I try this it just saysthat there is already a file queued and if I add any other the original will bedeleted.
Any advice on how to get Handbrake to convert one film afteranother.

I have tried using the Output files Name in the options but this does not seem to do anything ?

Hi Friends,

This time I am again here for some help; I bought a DVD with much expectation regarding the quality.

I was waiting for ripping the DVD; but its my bad luck as the video quality is worst;

I have attached .m2v file.

Please friends, help me out; Please provide with proper filters so that I can get excellent quality of this movie.

N.B.: I am using Megui; create AVS file, then rip dvds.

Best formats & applications for full dvd rip (menus, chapters, extras, etc)

I've been reading and reading and I seem to be going in circles. I guess I'm using the wrong search terms coz i keep coming up with "convert to mp4" and such.

What is the best format for a full, best video/audio quality or no compression, dvd rip? Literally a duplicate of a dvd without converting it to mp4, mkv, etc.
I've heard of iso, vob, video_ts, and others.

Also, what are the best freeware applications (Windows and/or Mac) for extracting the full dvd?

What if it's region coded?

I know how to convert to mp4s and other formats, but ripping the initial dvd is something unknown to me.

Im working with heavily pixilated video by opening up files from commercially scrambled (think that's the right word) Commercial DVDs for a video project.Im also using a screen capturing device the footage which i plan to dump into Adobe and taeach myself how to edit.First i was wondering if anyone out there could recomend the best free or otherwise live screen capturing device to use?Next Question is can anyone recommend a decent editing or effects package that will in effect sharpen up some of the pixilated footage i have to use.I like the blur too but need to sharpen up some areas for my video to add a bit off variety to the screen visuals in my finished edited work.AnY One out there?

I have used AnyDVDripper to put all my DVDs onto a 5TBexternal drive with the protection removed.

Now what ?

Following advice on this forum I have decided not to convertthem to WMV files but rather MP4’s.

But

I have tried running a few through DVDfab and the resultshave been mixed. Some of the films were fine, others ran half way through then the directors commentary started (eventhough I’d taken that off in DVDfab), others had sections missing, on some the language changed repeatedly through the film etc.

I have tried running some films through DVDshrink then Video to Video Converter. All the films worked fine except that, no matter which settings I changed (I tried many, many, different sizes), they all played with a 3” blackborder around them (on a lap top screen), so they will not expand to fill thescreen – the ones that went trough DVDfab did fill the screen (but of coursehad other problems) so I know it's the film that has the problem not the player.

So what do you suggest?

All I want is to be able to play my films on my laptop (high quality / full screen). File size is not a problem as I have somevery big external hard drives, but if I could reduce them (with loss of quality) it would be a bonus. I don't mind how long the convertion takes for each film.

Hi, I am pretty new to all this ripping lark so any help would be much appreciated.

I want to rip my Pal DVD collection to my PC hard-drive to then stream to my DLNA LCD TV using Serviio or XBMC. I can do the rips OK but I am getting a problem with the resulting files. Basically, whenever there is a lot of motion in a shot, like a pan or zoom, I notice that the picture jerks along at a regular pulse of about one second. I have tried ripping to H.264/MP4 and .avi also Xvid but either format gives the same problem. I have tried different bit-rates as well but it makes no difference. I am using ImToo DVD Ripper Platinum which seems to give me the best overall results. I have tried Handbrake but with that I can never get the resulting movie to fill my screen, even though the resulting aspect ratio/size is the same as the original DVD and the same as hwat comes out of the ImToo program.

I initially thought it might be a frame-rate issue so tried different settings such as keeping it the same and changing it but neither seemed to make any difference. I then thought it might be a streaming issue, so downloaded a couple of rips other people had done and they play absolutely fine on my system. The one thing I also notice with those is that the quality seems better for the same file size. There is obviously something I may need to do in the 'advanced settings' but that is way out of my league at the moment, hence my post on here.

Any suggestions please?

hi

i use fairuse wizard 3d for quite some time now and like to program a lot. ripping tv-series is really simple.

one thing i could not work out until now is:
i have a series where all the episodes have a lot of different length. thats why i would like to rip the dvd with a certain picture size (eg. 696 * 392) and with a defined overall bitrate (e.g. 1360). the result would be that all the episodes have the same quality but different files size.

does anybody know if this is possible at all?

Is there a piece of freeware that extracts the video files from a iso like dvdfab does? Dvdfab put on a watermark on the upper right hand cornerm this is something I don't want thank you, John:(
