Hi,

Hi,

I have a Datavideo DAC 100 DV encoder fed from a Datavideo Timebase corrector (think it is a TBC 1000) and I have been happily capturing 8mm (standard and Hi) and VHS video to DV for years until recently. The DAC 100 has a button on the left side to select analogue or DV input and when I select analogue it will randomly change to DV input after some minutes thus ruining the capture.

I use a 4 port PCI firewire card for DV input (LSI chipset) to the computer and I have checked on another computer with built in firewire and they both exhibit the same behavior. I am running Windows 8 (but have checked on a computer running XP) and use WinDV for capture (but have also checked with DVlab - I think it is called).

In short different firewire inputs on different computers running different versions of windows and my DAC 100 still randomly switches from analogue to DV...

So do you think my DAC 100 is kaput? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

ASUS VIRTUAL CAPTURE DEVICE DRIVER,
"reinstall the drivers for this device (code 18)."

In fact, when I try to capture a movie with Pinnacle, a message window pops up and tries to start the updating process of the Asus VIRTUAL CAPTURE DEVICE DRIVER.

I tried to update the driver with the automatic XP procedure, and also with the Asus cd that the seller left me at the time, but I can not find a driver going to solve the problem.

I do not know what is the device the driver searches for, I can not figure out if it is a hardware component of the video capture card or something else...

This driver is not found, however, nor in the discs that I left the technical nor on the Asustek site .

My capture card is a Pinnacle 500 PCI

I thank all those who can give me some suggestions on what to do ...

Hi

I have been having an ongoing problem trying to get Sound and Vision out of my home made family DVD's using the above device - into my Avid .. I can get pictures out no problem but NO sound comes via the firewire Port

Bear in mind I am not at all trying to capture encrypted DVD's they are my own home made DVD's with a sample rate of either 32K or 48K something that the DVR should understand.

My question is does anybody know of a flash or hardware manipulation that can make my DVR play out sound and vision via firewire (DV Port)? I really like this DVR as it is one that I can play straight out of my Avid into the DVR without having to encode timeline via QT etc.

If I have posted to the wrong section could the administrator kindly place it where I might get a bit more help.

Many thanks for reading this

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I don't think there is a solution except getting a VHS/DVD combo but I thought I would give it a shot. Here is my problem: I have tried several FREE software programs and EasyCAP with Honestech 2.5 and EasyCAP with Ulead, Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3, and Honestech VHS to DVD 5.0 Deluxe, all with the same results. I can't copy the VHS video/audio to either my PC or my Laptop. I am hoping someone out there has a solution that will allow me to use one of my computers to capture the VHS video. I have about 75 VHS tapes I want to convert to DVD. Thanks to everyone in advance for any help.

I'm attempting to transfer some old 8mm tapes using a couple different methods.

Originally we had been using a program called "Ulead Video Studio" that came free with my Sabrent USB-AVCPT USB 2.0 capture card. It did well enough, but I can't quite tell if it's dropping any frames, and it seems that it might be. I thought capturing directly to Lagarith Lossless might make things move a bit smoother, but instead it produced a weird effect every so often where the top half of the screen was not sync'd with the bottom, resulting in choppy image or a visible line in the center of the picture. So I figured it would be a good idea to ditch Ulead entirely.

So, now I'm trying to capture to an external HDD, capturing directly to the HDD using Virtual Dub using Lagarith Lossless compression and do all steps at once. (Capture, compress, transfer to external). However, in VirtualDub, my FPS is consistently around 20, and I can't get it any higher, whether compressed or uncompressed, with or without video playback on the screen, even before I begin capture it says 20 FPS in the bottom right corner. When recording, it drops about 30% of all frames and the audio is heavily desynchronized. I've looked for solutions but have been unable to find any.

So, my two questions then,

1. Am I right to pursue Vdub for capturing? I understand it's pretty much the best freeware there is; or is there merit in using Ulead? (other than being unable to get Vdub to work)
2. If so, what do you recommend to remedy my FPS woes? I don't think it's my harddrive, it's a brand new 7200 RPM 2TB Seagate, and it's definitely not my CPU. I have an i7 2600 threaded to 8 cores, and I disabled nearly every service that wasn't required for A/V, system stability, and internet (though I do not connect to the internet until I have to). CPU usage doesn't go above 3% according to Vdub.

I suspect it is my cheapo capture device, as I understand Vdub is picky about capture chipsets, but should it really cause such a fierce dip in FPS considering the specifications of the rest of my system?

What's your take, Videohelp? And many thanks in advance!

But I couldn't find a similar Video Encoder for Hauppauge Colossus like Hauppauge HD PVR.

As you can see in the attached jpg the only Video Encoder I've found for Hauppauge Colossus is TS Encoder,
and the problem that it doesn't have "Virtual Video/Audio In".

I'm just wondering if anyone used rcTvCap successfully with Hauppauge Colossus or is it just limited to Hauppauge HD PVR?

If it is not possible, any suggestions for capturing software that has both the scheduler and the ability to control Bitrate.
The main capture window stays still some time and then it shows itself as ready to capture again as if i putted the filename. The thing is the file is created, but when i try to import it it says damaged or unsupported format. Some other times (the most) this filename window does apperar and when i define the name and hit ok, i can see in Finder that the file that was beeing created generates a thumb, that de "corrupt" file doesnt ever get to generate because i think its not "closed", but i dont understand the inner proccess so its just a guess.
So the thing is, is there a way to fix this file? its 2hr capturing and its not the first time it happens, so id be very grateful if you can help me.
anyway, i connected through composite because the svideo is horible on my equipment.

ok, so i need help connecting to the right filter that displays video. i've tried all the rendere's i could find but none will connect. anyway, here is what i have that works for me in saving videos only:

Hi,

I recently bought a JVC HR-S7611 for digitalizing my old stuff. The picture quality is definatly better than on the VHS I had borrowed.
The problem is that there are black shadows next to bright stuff in the video. Most notably with credits or subtitles. Up till now I tried different cables (scart, scart with svideo, svideo) but these areas are always there. The picture modes (auto, edit, soft, sharp) and turning on/off the TBC didn't help either. They weren't present on the VHS. At first I thought it's because of the better hardware that it's actually showing stuff that is present there but it's showing up on bought tapes as well as my own taped tv stuff. Then I thought it might be that this is below black level only visible on never screens but it's also present on the old crt. I tried to set levels with VirtualDub and Avisynth which helped blacken them out but I lose detail or get more noise if brighten up the picture again. So I guess something is broken with the hardware but I have no idea what it could be.

I uploaded a small clip with the problem. It looks like the small shadow that is usually added to text is drawn out way to the right. Sometimes almost as far as the right side.

In the picture you can see the shadows beneath the letters but also some stars have them. The shadows are not always as clean as in the Star Wars example.
Attachment 17816

Here's one from Star Trek. The black goes till the right border. Also notice the light and the buttons on the left side.

Here is another one from the Star Wars clip with a black area next to the republic ship.

problems capturing videotapes from a VCR with Hauppauge PVR

After a fair amount of research and a brief use of the worthless Roxio easy VHS cables, I recently bought the older style Hauppauge PVR. Basically I want to transfer my 20 year old VHS tapes to video files and eventually make DVDs. I hooked up my basic Panasonic VCR from around 2000 or so and started capturing. (Year old PC, 6 core AMD, 16G memory, beefy computer and ATI Radeon video card.) Almost immediately I ran into issues with skipping, chattering, whatever, where the device could not capture. Fast forwarding or reverse the VCRseemed to sometimes trigger this. When I re-attached the PVR via a USB port off the motherboard rather than the front of the computer, it got better, and I thought the problem was solved, but it soon reappeared. It is an intermittent thing. I contacted Hauppauge, and a tech replied that the device sometimes has trouble getting a decent analogue signal from an older VCR. Alternately, the encoder could be going out. I had asked about the over-heating issue, but he said that should be fixed. Anyway, I captured about 3 hours, then had more problems, so I hooked up a 2cond Panasonic VCR, a newer one that is a combo-unit with a DVD. I tried the composite out, and it worked for a few minutes, then started doing the same thing. I've also tried swapping the USB cable without success.

However, this newer Panasonic unit has component and S-video outputa, so I hooked up to the PVR using the a component video cable, and the skipping has gone away. The picture does also seem to be different. Better, I'm not so sure? It's maybe clearer, but I notice the highlights seem very bright and, in photography turns, blown out. I assume the Panasonic must be doing some type of conversion itself.

Okay, so I have a few questions, the most basic being what type of connection should theoretically give me the best captured video files: component, s-video or composite? Or should the results be roughly equivalent?

A related question is, why doesn't the composite connection work?! I wonder if I should send the unit back, since the encoder just doesn't seem to work reliably with a composite connection. It was just luck that I had a unit that has multiple connection options. Since many people buy the device to transfer videotapes, you would think a composite connection should work!

I guess I'm just asking for some general advice here. This whole effort to transfer videos has turned into an incredible swamp, which I did not expect. I also discovered after buying the unit that the included Arcsoft software will not edit out the annoying lines around the frame, especially the one at the bottom, so that I will need to buy some separate video editing software, but that is a topic for another post. Has anyone else run into these issues with the PVR working erratically when you try to do a basic capture off the composite connection? That is making me wonder if I have a defective unit.

I did try to research these issues before posting, but there are so many entries out there, and I couldn't quite find one that addressed the issue of which connection should work best, or if are they all about the same. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Installed this the other day using the newest drivers on the website and have been unable to get it working in either VirtualDub or the TotalMedia Theatre application.

I can see its Capture Filter tabs and the Capture Pin but that's about it. In GraphEdit, there is no "WDM Streaming Crossbar" for this device like there is for my ATI 600.

This is on both Win7 and an old WinXP laptop...

Have about 50 8mm film to capture, what to do?

I have a pile of 8mm, many of them 30 years old to 60 years old and I wanted to capture them into modern format but I need advice. I thought about using projector and my camera but none of my camera will do 12 fps or equal multiples without lots of messy artifact, dark frames (in between film frame), or incorrect playback speed. I even tried using my camera in PAL setting (25 fps) but it's still not quite synced with the film at 12/24fps

It looks like I'd need professional equipment to do a clean capture and transfer but they don't come cheap and I don't want to keep any equipment around after the film's converted so I think I'll send the film to reputable source.

I tried to Google for 8mm film conversion service and even tried "8mm film conversion -tape" but got lots of hit for service that are doing 8mm magnetic tape. Whoever the idiot that made the 8mm term popular with magnetic tape needs to take remedial history because the term 8mm was used for film a few decades before magnetic media was invented and a good ~50 years before 8mm tape was invented.

Who would you suggest that can handle 8mm film at reasonable cost? The one service I did find is doing $1 per foot, which means I'd be playing about $50 per 3 minutes reel or $2500 total for the whole set. That seems pricey compared to just buying a pro film to video converter equipment, then selling it slightly used

EDIT: preferably in USA
